Ayurvedic Skin Types:

There are different Ayurvedic skin types. Irrespective of the dominant dosha, the skin’s characteristics may be vata, pitta or kapha-based.

There are sub-categories as well, which require very careful observation of the skin condition and various other factors.

VATA (Air and Ether):

Vata individuals are usually small in stature. Their hair is dark and rough, with a tendency towards knots and curls especially. Their skin is typically darker than its paired element, Pitta. It tends to be dry but can be oily from time to time. Vata people have a generally balanced appetite but can suffer from cramps and spasms if their dosha is unbalanced. Among the three doshas, vata dosha is only concerned with the physical aspect of life. They are very sensitive to cold, they crave sweet and hot foods to maintain the body’s normal temperature. Vata also needs nourishment and warmth.

PITTA  (Fire and water):

PITTA-type skin has a number of characteristics. People with strong Pitta temperament usually have strong appetites, sharp concentrating power, and are goal-oriented. These people generally live fast-paced life and have an instinctive ability to manage time well. Pitta types feel comfortable in an environment where there is a cooling breeze as this helps them conserve their energy and resources. They also find it difficult to concentrate when it is extremely hot outside.

Since Pitta is strongly associated with the skin, it means that Pitta-dominated skin may be very sensitive. The skin will be prone to inflammations, rashes, itching, premature wrinkling and balding, discoloration of natural pigmentation, and excessive oiliness.

KAPHA (Earth and Water):

Kapha skin, which is characterized by being smooth and unctuous, cool to the touch. Seldom gets rashes or infections and in an imbalanced state may suffer from acne, blackheads, boils, and pimples. Kapha skin cells tend to die off at a slower rate than the other doshas. Kapha is usually easygoing and relaxed. Their tissue is soft, slow to change, and smooth and lubricated. The liquids in their bodies move slowly, their metabolism is relatively slow, and their digestion is solid.

It is always smooth and pleasant to touch. It is also soft, giving a feeling of richness. If you’re lucky enough to have Kapha skin you will wake up in the morning with your sleeping mask still intact.

The ayurvedic facial is a holistic, natural treatment that is meant to detoxify your skin and enhance radiance. This facial is specially designed for ayurvedic skin. This facial can be used for all the above three types of skin.
